Willow Barbeau The thing that I find most special about Andrew and Kyle's vocals is that both of them took me a while to warm up to. Hearing Kyle on Skeletor and Andrew on Sub Atomic I had a bad reaction at first, but on returning listens their voices grew on me more and more. Perhaps it was the gruff accent that originally scared me, a north-eastern american, off, but I'm so glad I gave both of them a second chance and came back to this album. Beautifully done Favorite track: Record Collection.

I redesigned your body and trapped you In my heart I wrote a thousand love songs but you tore them all apart with mighty words than mean twice as much as I could ever say We're trying to find a meaning- I think we both found it today And you? You're everything to me. And you? You're all I see. You chained me to a radiator deep within your soul but I broke free, fucked up the pipes That's why you're always so fucking cold But I came back with a vengeance cause my heart says this is what you need I came back crawling through the Glasgow streets Saying "You mean everything to me" Yes you! You're everything to me. And you? You're all I see.

I wish I was a little bit stronger, so I could carry you over the threshold But in the sea I'm stronger than I'll ever be. You say- you wish there wasn't sand in your finger nails As you sing that I'm the wind beneath your sails. It's all I'll ever be And you could my anchor You could save me from the waves Don't go out too far you say But for you I wanna be brave I get swept away on the crest of a wave with you... I wish we had a little bit longer We could swim right onto the ocean Cause in the sea. We're Freer than we'll ever be and you sleep in the sand and I watch as you sleep and as you do all I can think is this world will never have us beat. They'll all fall at our feet.

I feel like I'm dying of something or perhaps something is dying of me. You know I only cry at funerals cause there's one I know I'll never get to see and there's a cd spinning in the corner baby crying on it's mothers shoulder It's weird that people complain about that shit It's cause its something they know that they wont have when they're Older Put all of my shit in a box when I'm through and put me into a box too. It seems like she can hardly lift her head without you here My dear- I think you're pronouncing that wrong.

The leaves are turning brown again You got a new blue winter coat again The clocks go back for the hundredth time Just another hour with you Talking over the heater in your car In the rain on the drive home You say I love you for the hundredth time It still means everything from you And I hope I'm someones rainy day music I hope I'm worth your while. I hope they let my voice fill the silence as they swallow up another mile. Swinging the blind chord of the window on my own As I wait for you to come home I've sung about this a million times Here's to another million more Cd skips in the corner, under the TV, under covers we are As the rain falls heavy on the ground. Never thought It'd turn out like this.

about

Muriel Spark described Scotland as a ‘nevertheless’ country: a country where apparent contradictions and paradoxes sit side-by-side to create a nation which is all the better for its multi-faceted nature. Andrew Pearson & Lovers Turn to Monsters make ‘nevertheless’ pop music. They write songs of unusual lyrical depth and sophistication, nevertheless delivered with a lightness of touch and common unpretentiousness that makes 'Everything We Miss' one of the most charming and likeable releases of the year. They are almost morbidly obsessed with writing about death, loss and loneliness; nevertheless their music is relentlessly upbeat, uplifting and optimistic. It is homemade and DIY, nevertheless undeniably ‘pop’. In their brilliant collaborative debut, two of Scotland’s finest young songwriters have created an album of beguiling and ingenious indie-pop that thrives on its multifaceted nature.

Andrew Pearson & Lovers Turn to Monsters (a.k.a. Kyle Wood) were united by their love of comic books, Wes Anderson and lo-fi music. These influences shine through in their desire to make good ol’ fashioned entertainment yet with a sincere, and at times devastating, emotional core. 'Everything We Miss' is a must-listen.

Some nice things other folk had to say;

"It’s full of the upbeat, lo-fi, ramshackle tunes that both songwriters specialise in, which mask blackly humorous lyrics that touch on some of the heaviest of human concerns."
Lis-Marie Ferla (Last years girl)

"If you’re a fan of Frightened Rabbit’s more acoustic moments, Belle and Sebastian, King Creosote and so on then this is for you. Even if that doesn’t sound like you, you really should try this album as there are some wonderful moments here that deserve to be heard."
David McElroy (XSNoize)

"‘Everything We Miss’ is an understated triumph of two young talents coming together to produce an album that is sure to win over anyone with a soft spot for lovingly-crafted lo-fi songs."
Gavin Porter (Is This Music?)

about

Lovers Turn to Monsters Glasgow, UK

Lovers Turn to Monsters is a long pale man, slowly falling into middle age.

He wishes he could be one of those guys who tours all the time, but he likes baths far too much. So instead he stays in his room and makes lengthy albums of emotive lo-fi nonsense. ... more
